iPhone App Store Region vs GPS Location - What's the Difference?
Changing your App Store country, your IP address and your GPS location are three different things. Here's what each one affects and how to change them.

"Change your iPhone's location" can mean three completely different things. Mixing them up is why so many people try a fix that does nothing. Here's the breakdown.
1. App Store country (your Apple Account region)
This controls which App Store you see, which apps you can download, the currency you pay in and which subscriptions are offered.
- Change it: Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
- You'll usually need to cancel subscriptions, spend any store credit, and have a payment method from the new country.
- It does not move you on a map. Maps and location-based apps still see where you really are.
2. Language & Region (device format settings)
Settings → General → Language & Region changes date formats, units, calendar and language. It's purely cosmetic: it doesn't affect the App Store, your IP or your GPS.
3. IP address (where websites think you are)
Websites and streaming services guess your country from your IP address. A VPN changes it. GPS-based apps ignore it.
4. GPS location (where apps think you are)
This is what Maps, Find My, weather, local search and location-based apps use. Neither a VPN nor the App Store setting changes it. To change it you need location simulation - see how to change your iPhone location without jailbreaking.
Quick reference
| Setting | Changes | Doesn't change |
|---|---|---|
| App Store country | Store, apps, currency | GPS, IP |
| Language & Region | Formats, units, language | Store, GPS, IP |
| VPN | IP / website country | GPS, store |
| Location changer (e.g. Mirrage) | GPS for every app | Store, IP |
Some apps check more than one of these. An app that sees a GPS location in Japan and an IP address in the UK may get suspicious - something to bear in mind.
FAQ
Does changing my App Store country change my location?
No. It changes which store and apps you see. Your GPS location stays the same.
Does a VPN change my iPhone's location?
It changes your IP address, so websites see a different country. Apps that use GPS still see your real location.
How do I change my iPhone's GPS location?
You need location simulation - a developer feature available without a jailbreak through tools like Mirrage.
