Fake GPS on iPhone - What Works in 2026 (and What Doesn't)

The honest guide to faking GPS on an iPhone - why App Store "fake GPS" apps don't work, what does, and how to fake your location safely without a jailbreak.

Search the App Store for "fake GPS" and you'll find plenty of results. Download them and you'll find most of them don't fake anything - at least not for other apps. Here's why, and what actually works.

Why "fake GPS" apps on the App Store don't work

On Android, a fake GPS app can tell the whole system "use my location instead". iPhone doesn't allow that. Each App Store app lives in its own sandbox, and no App Store app is allowed to change the location other apps receive. The "fake GPS" apps you find there either:

  • only change the location inside their own app (useful for nothing), or
  • show you a map with a pin, without affecting anything else.

Apple also doesn't approve apps whose purpose is spoofing your location for other apps. So the real tools live outside the App Store.

The three methods that actually fake GPS on iPhone

1. Jailbreaking (not recommended)

A jailbreak removes iOS's restrictions so tweaks can override location. It works, but jailbreaks lag behind new iOS versions, weaken your phone's security, can break banking apps, and are hard to undo. For most people it's not worth it.

2. Developer tools (Xcode)

Apple's Xcode lets developers simulate a location on a connected iPhone. It's legitimate and safe, but it means installing Xcode on a Mac and keeping the phone attached. It's built for testing apps, not everyday use.

3. A developer-mode location app (best for most people)

Apps like Mirrage use the same official location-simulation feature as Xcode, but run on the phone itself. After a one-time setup on a computer, you fake your GPS with a tap, anywhere in the world, with the phone in your pocket.

Because it uses Apple's own mechanism, every app sees the new location, and stopping it restores your real GPS instantly.

Faking movement, not just a pin

A pin that sits perfectly still is easy to spot. Real phones drift a few metres, and when you travel they speed up, slow down and stop at junctions. Mirrage can:

  • Teleport to any place you search for.
  • Wander - drift naturally around a spot, with small pauses, like a person.
  • Take a pretend trip - drive, cycle or walk along real roads at realistic speeds, with stops along the way.
  • Follow a GPX route you import - see how to use GPX files on iPhone.

You can see the movement engine running in your browser.

Is faking GPS on iPhone safe?

For your phone, yes: no jailbreak, no system files changed. For your accounts, it depends on the app - read is location spoofing safe and detectable? before using it with an app that forbids spoofing.

FAQ

Is there a free fake GPS app for iPhone that works?

Not on the App Store - Apple doesn't allow apps to change the location other apps see. Working methods use developer tools (Xcode) or a developer-mode app like Mirrage.

Do I need to jailbreak to fake GPS on iPhone?

No. Developer-mode location simulation works on a normal, non-jailbroken iPhone on iOS 17.4 and later.

Does faking GPS affect Find My iPhone?

Yes. While the location is simulated, your whole phone reports it, including Find My and location sharing. Stop the simulation and your real location returns.

Can I fake GPS on iPhone without a computer?

You need a computer once to turn the feature on. After setup, Mirrage works entirely on the phone.
