Why a computer is needed at all
Apple only allows location simulation through its developer services, and those can only be switched on from a trusted computer. Specifically, a computer is needed to:
- Install the app - apps that change GPS can't be on the App Store, so they're installed with your Apple ID.
- Pair your iPhone - creating the trust relationship that lets developer features run.
- Prepare Developer Mode - the switch appears once a developer app is installed.
